Client Adviser Case study feature on RIBA Website
Ruth Butler Architects have been chosen to feature as a Client Adviser case study on the RIBA website for their work on an outdoor learning project for a Hampshire primary school.
Ruth Butler acted as the RIBA Client Adviser to St John’s School to develop a five year, phased Outdoor Learning masterplan for the school grounds.
The case study explores the role of the client adviser and illustrates how critical Ruth was in driving this project to a highly successful outcome.
Embedding the RIBA Client Adviser as design champion is key to a project’s success.
The RIBA Client Adviser was central to the development of a transformational outdoor education facility for St John’s School, delivered in a mix of hard and soft landscaping.
The school grounds have been completely reimagined and are now used to deliver Forest Schools and Outdoor Learning programmes. The grounds now boast a treehouse, outdoor musical instruments, a quiet reflection area, a woodland walk and an outdoor stage.
You can view the full case study on the RIBA website here.
What is an RIBA Client Adviser?
An RIBA Client Adviser is usually an experienced architect and professional practitioner (but not the one designing the building) working with the client’s team, independent of the supply team, monitoring and helping the client to manage the design process from its earliest stages. It’s a vital role on all projects, especially in defining procurement routes,
RIBA Client Advisers are selected by the Royal Institute of British Architects, from its membership, for their all-round procurement expertise, design experience, business knowledge and track-record of delivering results in construction projects. They are selected based on the knowledge, skills and abilities, understanding and experience they can demonstrate.
For more information on the role of RIBA Client Adviser and tips for appointing one, see the RIBA Client Adviser leaflet here.
