Client Adviser to Russell Group University

Ruth Butler Architects have recently been appointed by a Russell Group university to provide RIBA Client Adviser services for a selection of projects that make up their 10-year development plan.

The first project for the prestigious university is the design and build of a Departmental and Research building.

As the Client Adviser, my role in this project is not to design but to bring ‘design thinking’ to the table.  I will provide support and advice focused on value, and bring experience to resolve problems efficiently and cost-effectively.

RIBA accredited Clients Advisers are described as:

experienced architects that can provide impartial and informed advice from the earliest stages of your project. Working with you they can draw up a business case, prepare the project brief, help you select the right practice, set up and lead the project team or manage the procurement on your behalf.

Working with the client, initial guidance can include: capturing the strategic brief, envisioning future aspirations and defining what is functional, value for money and feasible on the site/s.  This includes establishing opportunities and defining constraints, whether they arise from operational, planning, logistic, building or other considerations.

Whilst the details of this appointment remain confidential, I have included an image of a previous brief development and feasibility study for Sydney Jones Library, University of Liverpool I carried out whilst working at David Morley Architect.
