Ruth Butler is a member of the Passivhaus Trust.

Our award-winning RIBA Chartered Practice specialises in low-carbon projects. Recently completed Passivhaus Certified projects include both new build and deep retrofit.

She is passionate about the benefits of Passivhaus for people and the environment.  The standard is central to our approach to achieving excellent internal comfort and energy efficiency.  It is complemented by careful consideration of upfront carbon in the materials and construction methods she uses.

Her interest in the standard was ignited when designing her own office (and home) – which was completed and Passivhaus Certified in 2015.  Post occupancy monitoring and evaluation demonstrates a comfortable environment, and a 34% improvement on the calculated energy performance.

She applies the principles of a fabric-first approach across the full range of projects, including sport and leisure facilities, educational buildings, sensitive conservation and refurbishments.

Ruth Butler is signatory to the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge.
